Ambassador of Great Britain sees the negotiation process only in the framework of JCC. On 6 August 2008 the President of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity met with the Ambassador of Great Britain Denis Keef. During the meeting the attention of the Ambassador of Great Britain was drawn to the fact that Georgia is trying to break the four-sided internationally recognized format of JCC that includes Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia and North Ossetia-Alania.

Tskhinval discusses the possibility of conducting the consultative meeting on the start of the negotiation process. The JCC Co-chair from the South Ossetian side Boris Chochiev informed that “the JCC Co-chair from the Russian side Jury Popov applied to the South Ossetian part of the JCC with the proposal that Russia comes out with the initiative to arrange a preparatory and consultative meeting on the continuation of the negotiation process within the JCC framework.

South Ossetia asks the OSCE Mission to Georgia be objective . On August 4, 2008 on the initiative of the RSO President Eduard Kokoity it took place a meeting with force structures of the RSO with representatives of the OSCE Mission to Georgia.

Delegation of the USA Embassy agreed to meet with representatives of South Ossetia . On July 29 on the request of the South-Ossetian side it took place a meeting with representatives of the USA Embassy to Georgia who visited South Ossetia with the aim of acquainting with the course of implementation of the Donor program of economic rehabilitation of the conflict zone.

Chairman of the “Union of the Ossetians of Georgia” might be convicted for “smuggling”. At present legal proceedings were instituted against the Head of the “Union of the Ossetians” Merab Gazzashvili. Very soon he will be brought before the court on charges of carriage of smuggling to Georgia. Under the “smuggling” the Georgian authorities imply children books of the Ossetian language.

The Government of South Ossetia assisted help to a woman banished form Georgia. On July 24 the Government of South Ossetia allocated finances to a heroine mother, resident of North Ossetia Zemfira Gabaraeva for curing her daughter Indira who had been banished from Georgia by her Georgian husband and his family because of her Osset nationality.

South Ossetian side declines the bilateral meeting

The meeting of B. Chochiev and M. Frichova. Boris Chochiev noted that at present the situation is much more complicated and dangerous than it was in 2004. The Georgian side has chosen the very dangerous way under the slogan “to destroy everything”. They are very successfully implementing not only the breakdown process of the JCC but the breakdown of all the mechanisms of the existing negotiation format. And the main negative point is the failure of all contacts between the sides in the conflict over the year that causes great danger.

Meeting between Boris Chochiev and Zharko Petrovich. On 22 July 2008 the Deputy Chairman of the Government, the Minister for Special Affairs of the RSO, the JCC Co-chair from the South Ossetian side Boris Chochiev received the Deputy Head of OSCE Mission to Georgia Ryan Grist, the Head of the Tskhinval Field Office Grzegorz Michalski, who represented the new Councilor on the political issues of the OSCE Mission Zharko Petrovich.
